Ray Don't Care
"Ray don't care" pretty much sums up life at our house the past couple of months. And we expect to keep saying it regularly as our teenage terror of a puppy seems hellbent on continuing her current trends of disobedience and destruction.
You see those ears, right? Ray picks up every sound in a mile radius, I'm sure. So I know it's not her hearing when I call her to me from two feet away and she goes to Jason. She just doesn't care that I'm the one calling her.
The other day Jason found our little darling de-feathering our lonesome dove. She hadn't killed it mind you, just pinned it to the ground and proceeded to pull the feathers out of the poor thing's back. Jason was able to distract her away from it long enough for the dove to fly away. This dove has visited our yard regularly for several years and has no mate, so I'm very hopeful he has a full recovery.
That evening Ray punched Jason in the mouth after he made what we've started calling the crazy note while playing with her
. It's like the brown noise only instead of pooping she goes bonkers. She cracked his lip open and scraped up his gum.
So don't make any strange noises if you meet Ray, and whatever you do, stand clear if you're in between Ray and something she's interested in. She will plow through you to get to it, as she did with Jason the other night coming through the dog door for dinner.
We're spending lots of time outdoors these days so I brought one of their beds out on the deck. They took turns sleeping on it throughout the day with a couple of group sessions in between. It's almost flea season so I've been researching homeopathic flea prevention. Not sure how well any of it works but thought it was worth looking into. I hate putting poisons on the dogs, plus the cost. Then Jason woke up with a tick on him. I really hate dealing with fleas and ticks. There are a few options in the list of homeopathic treatments, so I guess we'll give them a shot. Fingers crossed!
Looks like Ray's going to be our next Frisbee dog. We've started with a carpet disc and plan to move her to plastic discs soon. She has the idea of running to catch them so it shouldn't be long. Hopefully I'll get some video soon. Lieu and Gypsy loved to catch Frisbees in their younger years.
Ray's swelling seems to be slowly diminishing, it'd help if she'd slow down, I'm sure. I'm still putting a warm compress on it twice daily, for as long as she'll let me anyway. I cut every one's nails this weekend as well. They tolerated it fairly well.
